Aistear, our national early year’s curriculum allows the children to introduce emergent themes throughout the year. Hospital topics were very much on some children’s agenda this January 2015 so teachers supported additional learning through stories, art & related resources. Check out the future medics of Ireland!
Weeks leading up to Christmastime 2014 were extremely busy. Children said goodbye to soothers & bottles by popping into Santa’s box – a big step for 3 & 4 year old children. Well done! Halloween, believed by many to have originated from the Celtic harvest festival (Samhain) was celebrated in our preschool on Fri. 31st Oct. Children dressed up and took part in the Halloween parade. We decorated the school with pumpkins & Halloween artwork and sang our fun Halloween songs!
Diwali, the ancient Hindu festival of light signifies the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, good over evil & hope over despair. Leaves, trees, autumnal colours & hibernation have been the dominant learning topics this autumn 2014.
Children spent the week of Oct. 10th learning about road safety and the rules of the road. Community Garda Andrew popped by and was very impressed with children’s knowledge of traffic lights & crossing the roads (only ever with an adult).
